As a functional medicine doctor, I’ve had the privilege of working with numerous patients who struggle with obesity and weight loss. It’s a complex issue, one that often requires a multifaceted approach to address. Today, I’d like to share my perspective on the effectiveness of different diets, the role of genetics, and the use of drugs like Ozempic for weight loss.

The Diet Dilemma

When it comes to weight loss, there’s no shortage of diets to choose from. From low-carb to low-fat, from vegan to paleo, the options seem endless. I’ve seen patients achieve success with a variety of diets. However, I’ve also seen many patients struggle to maintain their weight loss long-term.

The truth is, there’s no one-size-fits-all diet that works for everyone. Each person’s body is unique, and what works for one person may not work for another. That being said, there are some general principles that I believe can be helpful for most people.

First, focus on whole, nutrient-dense foods. This means eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. These foods provide the nutrients your body needs to function optimally, and they can help you feel satisfied and energized.

Second, listen to your body. Pay attention to how you feel after eating certain foods. Do you feel energized and satisfied, or do you feel sluggish and still hungry? This can help you identify which foods work best for you.
