Introduction to Bach flower essences

Bach flowers, also known as Bach flower remedies or Bach flower essences, are a form of alternative medicine that was developed by Dr. Edward Bach in the 1930s. These remedies are derived from the flowers of certain plants and are believed to have healing properties for various emotional and psychological conditions.

The Bach flower remedies are based on the idea that imbalances in emotional states can lead to physical ailments and that by restoring emotional balance, overall well-being can be improved. Dr. Bach identified 38 different flower remedies, each associated with a specific emotional state or personality trait.

Dr. Edward Bach discovered these essences after making many observations in nature. It is believed that he realized this while walking in nature and noticing that next to a flower, he stopped experiencing the troubling feeling he had at that moment. That’s when he realized that not all flowers had the same effect, and gradually he found each of the flowers that alleviated the different emotions he experienced.

Each Bach flower remedy is believed to address a specific emotional issue. For example, Rescue Remedy is a popular Bach flower blend that is often used to reduce stress and promote a sense of calm. You can find this blend already made, but for the rest you need to choose what are the best ones for you and create your unique blend.

Bach flower remedies are typically taken orally in a diluted form, either by adding drops to water or alcohol or by placing drops directly on the tongue. They are considered safe to use and are often used as a complementary therapy alongside other forms of treatment. Often blending 3-5 different remedies works quite well, as most emotional states are complex. For instance, often underneath anger is grief, so taking a remedy to soften anger AND adding something for shock, or sadness can help with the whole rainbow of the emotional state.
